House of Horrors…

Halloween is fast approaching and I know I have been absent for a month but fear not few followers I am back and preparing for one hell of a Halloween party. Earlier last month I blogged about ideas we had for our upcoming horror fest. Well it is beginning to look a lot like murder scene at my house and I must say I like it.  ; ) Stay tuned for photos and comments on how we put it all together.

Halloween Horror Story

Happy Fall y’all! Okay just kidding. I know it isn’t quite fall yet and I haven’t been on here in a while.. hence having a wedding to get underway, but I’m back! And Halloween is in full force on my radar. I cannot wait until the last week of September when it is “acceptable” in my  household to decorate for my upmost favorite holiday!

Now.. every year I go beyond just decorating and handing out candy to a few stragglers on my street. I HAVE to have a Halloween party. A few years ago we started a theme for the party called the House of Horrors.  Now with that we attempt to make everything in the house and garage look like a bloody crime scene. I don’t like the cute-sty Halloween nonsense. This is supposed to be a scary holiday!

This year thanks to the internet and the many blogs I have started reading I am overflowing with ideas! We carve pumpkins every year so I am thinking that instead of just leaving them out and carved as we usually would I will be buying dry ice. The effect it has along with say a glow stick leaves a creepy fog along the floor of the party and outdoors. Squidoo.com gives you all the details on how to create this guy.

I know these don’t have the bloody look that I said we are shooting for, but don’t doubt that well splatter some fake blood all over ours! Along with decorations of hanging bones, fake weapons, body bags, crime scene tape and police back drops, we have to think about food too!

There are some disgusting ways out there to present Halloween food. And let me tell you! I am more excited than ever to try them out!

I love the idea of cupcakes with fake glass and candy colored blood dripping over them, to a blood fondue and vampire style drinks. Its as simple as throwing some rum, pineapple juice, cranberry juice and a splash of grenadine in a glass and ta’da! You have a delicious bloody looking drink any vampire would swoon over.

Needless to say I am more than excited to finish planning and put it all together. Next up costume ideas! And watch out for the post from what went down at the actual party. 😉

Mimosa Anyone?

With the holiday season fast approaching I can only imagine a few of you are already thinking about shopping, dinners, presents and of course parties. As I have posted before drinks are always a tricky part of putting together the perfect party. Do you have a bartender? Do you as a host mix drinks? Have everyone bring their own? Right now I hate all of those ideas. I am absolutely in love with the “make your own” signature drink bar.

You can use any type of drink. Just lay out all the basic ingredients for one certain drink. Like in the photo above with Mimosa’s have champagne glasses available, bottles of a delicious champagne, a variety of juices (orange, pineapple, strawberry, etc) I also like if the juices are fresh and home made, and a variety of fresh cut fruit to accompany the juice. Oh and ice! Especially if your champagne isn’t chilled. I personally would label everything so that guest know, and add a cute chalkboard or some type of board with the drink name and how to make the drink. Ex: One part champagne, one part juice, garnish with fruit. It makes it easy on guests and allows you the host to enjoy yourself without worrying about everyone having a drink in their hand! ; )

Say Cheese!

This last weekend I went to a friends b-day party and had the chance to take a few photos in their make shift photo booth. The space they used was perfect, but it got me thinking about those of us who don’t have a little nook to throw some curtains up and smile away. So here is a simple solution.

Image

It is a simple as using a refrigerator box, some fabric and paint. Of course use the color paint and fabric of your choosing (I prefer to have it match your party theme!) Place the fabric on the inside back of the box for a cute back drop and then paint the remaining three sides. I suggest painting the outside as well depending on where you will be placing the booth. Make sure to have a basket or tub of various items for guests to use as props in the booth such as fake mustaches, hats etc. Also make sure you have a camera with those props or a photographer on site. I love this cheaper alternative to renting a booth for a party! 😉

Happy Hour

Well, the internet has been overly used by me today. Needless to say I am awfully bored on this insanely hot summer day. So while browsing I came across this idea…

Image

A signature cocktail. I love the idea. Not only for basic parties, but weddings and hell why not just a personal staple?? Don’t get me wrong I love my wine and simple gin and tonic, but how cool to have your own drink? Something that you always have on hand and can whip up for guests during any random visit. I have yet to find mine, but the day is still young! Look out internet, I am in need of some recipes!! 😉

Up and Over the Hill…

This last Saturday was my lovely Mother’s 50th Birthday. Now last year I threw her a huge surprise Tea Party for her birthday, since I suspected she would be expecting one this year. Sneaky I know 😉 So for this year I was a little at a loss of what to do for her especially with being so busy this last few weeks. The Friday night before her birthday day (Friday the 13th) I took her to get her 2nd tattoo. We got matching infinity signs on the inside of our middle right finger for those of you that were wondering. Then brought her home to a casually decorated house.

Doesn’t even look 50 right?

Now just because I didn’t throw some crazy shindig doesn’t mean I don’t have a gazzilon ideas on what I could/wanted to do. Turning 50 is a big deal! And there are so many cute ways to celebrate.I love the idea of throwing an “Over the Hill” party. I know that most people do it for their 40th, but really I believe it should be done when reaching the middle milestone of your lifetime. Along with some of my simple decorations, I had a few suckers with the saying “50 Sucks” printed on them. It is a cute, yummy way to bring back a little bit of childhood into at over the hill themed party.

I am also in love with the idea of having memories all over the house or event room for a party like this. One way I think is adorable to display such memories is to take photos from the guest of honors life, beginning with baby photos up until the point they are in their life and making the “50” out of the photos. As you can imagine there are probably a ton of photos, so the number displayed could be fairly large. To add a special touch throughout the party and not just on the display, take balloons filled with helium (make sure the color scheme matches the party!) and use the photos as weights for the balloons! Also like in one of my earlier posts about using duct tape on water bottles, why not add a few younger photos of your special guest of honor to personalize champagne and drinks??

Simple right? And very personal. All in all Happy Birthday to my mom. I love you so much! Remember, when that someone in your life reaches a birthday milestone, go all out. It will be worth it. And call me! I will help! 😉 xoxo

Good Company, Mixed Drinks.

I had the privilege to hang out with some pretty awesome people this weekend in the beautiful Newport Beach, and then drive a little ways up to Huntington Beach for a quick get together before the dreadful drive home. Needless to say between the boat ride and the drinks it was a great time. While in Huntington a friend of ours served up a delicious summer drink with frozen watermelon, coconut rum and crystal light..

Not only was it delicious but the glasses were adorable! Re purposed mason jars attached to candle sticks for a base. Cute and classy at the same time. A great drink and an adorable way to enjoy it. So in conclusion to this little post today, why not get away from the boring red solo cup when serving drinks and shoot for an easy DYI glass and drink to impress your guests?.. 😉
